Cameras should be calibrated:
- At the beginning of each shift.
- Every 1 inch of stacked pages.
- After setting up a camera new to the scribe.
- After a reset to production defaults, or other modification to camera settings.
The "Cameras are not calibrated" dialog will automatically trigger when creating the first new book, or taking the first shot for the current Scribe3 session.
Camera Calibration can also be triggered at will by clicking on "Camera Calibration" from the top, right user menu.
- Clicking “Calibrate” on the dialog, or “Camera Calibration” on the user menu will transition to the “Capture Test Shots” screen.
- Open the book to be digitized to a spread containing text on both leaves.
- Open the cradle, then place the opened book on the cradle plates.
- Adjust the cradle plates' horizontal positions to achieve a snug, centered fit, then close the cradle.
- Click the "Capture Test Shots" button. Preview images will appear on screen shortly after. If not, please refer to Camera Troubleshooting.
- Examine the test shots' preview images. Are the pages displaying on the correct sides? If not, click the
"FLIP" button. - Each digitization location has its own set of quality standards that must be met before proceeding with digitization. If you suspect a camera calibration/quality issue, click on the leaf's
"View Original Image File" button to view the full 1:1 sized image in your web browser.
Below are some recommended basic aspects to analyze. Comparing the captured, digital images to the physical pages:
- Do both pages fit in frame? If not:
- The book size might not be supported in the cradle. The TTS' Large Image Capture system or a Foldout Scribe might need to be used instead.
- Your cameras might be using a Zoom Lens. Try decreasing the focal length/zooming out.
- Is the text legible and crisp? If not, try refocusing the camera(s).
- Is the color, exposure, and overall look acceptable? If not, make the necessary adjustments.
- Compare the captured leaves with each other too. If their appearance does not match, the scribe's paired cameras may not be calibrated with matching values, in which case you should check and compare the camera settings.
It might be best to reset both cameras to production defaults, and then make any custom tweaks specific to your location.
- Do both pages fit in frame? If not:
- After making any adjustments, click
"RESHOOT".
Repeat the comparison and adjustment process until images quality is acceptable. - When calibration is complete, click the
"DONE" button. Depending on how Camera Calibration was triggered, Scribe3 will transition to the Book Metadata form or the Scribe Dashboard.
